REVIEW ON DEPRESSION & NOVEL ANTIDEPRESSANTS IN CLINICAL PRACTICE

ABSTRACT In terms of prevalence & suffering, morbidity, dysfunction & economic burden Depression is considered as a disorder of major public health importance. It is a common illness which can severely limit psychosocial functioning & QOL. As per the WHO reports of 2008, depression was known to be the third cause of Worldwide disease burden & is projected to be the leading contributor by 2030. It is a as a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how one feels, thinks, and acts. The classification is based on ICD-10 & DSM-5 criteria. Here we review data on various aspects of Depression, symptomatology, epidemiology, diagnosis & types, treatment alternatives & efficacy and issues of various antidepressants. Keywords: .
