ABSTRACT
The groundwater samples were collected from different stations around
these areas and analyzed for various physicochemical parameters such
as pH, Electrical Conductivity (EC), total dissolved solids(TDS),
dissolved oxygen(DO), biochemical oxygen demand(BOD), chemical
oxygen Demand (COD), total hardness(TH), sodium(Na),
potassium(K), calcium(Ca), magnesium(Mg), chloride(Cl),
sulphate(SO4) and nitrate(NO3). A study was carried out between
Tamilnadu and Pondicherry state area on physicochemical
contaminants and their sources in groundwater. The above
physicochemical parameters have been analyzed in our laboratory. The
results of this analysis were compared with the WHO water quality
standards. The study indicates that the water quality parameters slightly excess the
permissible limits and not suitable for drinking purposes
