ABSTRACT

The purpose of study was to evaluate “prevalence of hypothyroidism and pre-eclampsia in pregnant women”. Pregnancy has a huge impact on the blood pressure and in Thyroid function, which may lead to cause maternal complications. Early detection and treatment is helpful to avoid pregnancy related complications. It is a prospective study which involved 175 patients diagnosed with thyroid disorders and preeclampsia during their Antenatal checkup. In our study out of 175 cases, 90 cases are preeclampsia, 52 cases are Hypothyroidism and 33 are with both preeclampsia and thyroid dysfunction. Preeclampsia in pregnancy associate with Proteinuria- 40(26%); Decreased platelet count-27(18%); Seizures-10(7%) and 13 patients with no complication. Mostly seen delivery in preeclampsia is “LSCS-64(45%) with baby weight of 2- 3kg which most commonly seen.[due to growth restriction]. The commonly seen risk factor for preeclampsia is history of hypertension-40[44%]. The complication mainly seen due to preeclampsia and thyroid dysfunction is Abortion-49(32.6%) out of 175 and major are without complication. Majority of Hypothyroid subjects are also delivered by LSCS-31 (22%), with baby weight of 2-3kg. In this study it has found that severe preeclampsia is mainly seen in patients with thyroid dysfunction-33; fetal death, Abortion, preterm delivery and IUGR, Low Birth weight babies are significantly seen in “Pre-eclampsia patient with Hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism may be a modifiable risk factor for preeclampsia. Early screening may helpful in preventing from occurrence of Preeclampsia. Monthly check-ups, treatment and creating awareness about pregnancy complications may helpful to avoid “feto-maternal outcomes”.
