ABSTRACT
Innovations in pharmaceutical research are striving for designing newer drug therapies to address various clinical conditions. Strategies for such inventions always flourish with keys and objectives of minimal adverse effects and effective treatment. Drug delivery for local, systemic and brain specific effect through nasal route has attracted the interest of scientific community as it has been potentially explored as an alternative route for the administration of bio molecules such as proteins, peptides and non-peptide drugs that are are poorly absorbed via the oral route. Knowing this, many researchers and pharmaceutical companies are now engaged in developing novel intranasal formulations which is evident by numerous patents filed in
this area in recent times. In this review an effort is made to guide young researchers working in this area for designing their formulation by unfolding the selected patents having commercialized products such as nasal spray solution, suspension and powder based on novel approaches. An insight in physiochemical and pharmacokinetic properties of drugs and excipients used in formulation approaches of these patents has potential to direct research community to develop novel nasal formulation and evaluation.
