SWASTHYA CHATUSHKA - WAY OF LIVING HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

ABSTRACT
“Swasthasya Swasthya Rakshanama”[1] is main moto of Ayurveda to live a standard healthy and prosperous life. To elaborate its aim Ayurveda explain 7 Chatushka in its main treatise Charaka Sutrasthana. Swastha Chatushka hold second position among 7 Chatushka that includes procedures essential for the maintenance of health (i.e., Dincharya, Ritucharya). Chapters included in Swasthya Chatushka gives more importance on maintenance of both physical and mental health. Today in this 21st century where we are living in high intellectual world, changed lifestyle and distorted habits are affecting one’s physical and mental health which results in increase cases of low immunity, lifestyle disorders and mental issues among youngsters of
age group between 30- 50 years old. Concept and therapeutic measures explained here are generalized theories which have their own role in preservation of health and prevention of diseases. Detailed review of four chapters of Swastha Chatushka has been done which include Matrashitiadhyaya – food intake rule with daily daily routines, Tasyashitiadhyaya- seasonal regimen, Navavegandharniyadhyaya – do, s and don’t, Indriyoupkramaniya dhyaya-description of five tetrads and conducts. Thus, Swastha Chatushka is considered as holistic principle of science and medicine.
