Abstract

A COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN ALLOPATHY AND AYURVEDA FOR THE TREATMENT OF DIABETES MELLITUS: A REVIEW

Suchida Chandrashekhar Lingayat*

ABSTRACT

The present study is based on comparison of allopathic drugs VS natural herbs for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. The purpose of the study was to compare the efficacy of a commercially available polyhedral medication in the Indian market to that of a current Sulfonylurea-Gliclazide. The drugs employed in the allopathic system are designed to treat a single condition, but they can also affect other significant or life threatening diseases in the body. Ayurveda is a traditional medical system that offers a variety of potentially beneficial effects for preventing and treating illness through natural therapies collaboration of these two systems results in a novel and impressive combination that utilises the best of both and contributes to the creation of a healthy society. There are variety of treatments for diabetes, but complete recovery may not be possible. Furthermore, allopathic drugs have side effects such as renal impairments, mal absorption, flatulence, diarrhoea and abdominal bloating. Plant-based anti-diabetic therapies have a comparable mechanism of action to allopathic treatments, with fewer side effects and a lower cost.
