ABSTRACT
The importance of Orthodontic treatment has been stated long back in literature and is done for correction of irregular teeth, jaw discrepancy, overall esthetics and function. In the early days of fixed appliance Orthodontic treatment, brackets were welded to stainless steel or various other metal bands. Before actual Orthodontic treatment, the Orthodontists had to create enough space around each tooth to accommodate the bands. These spaces had to be closed at the end of treatment after removal of the bands. This method was time consuming and uncomfortable for the Orthodontists and patient respectively. Bonding has transformed the complexity of appliance construction into an efficient and pleasant operation for both Patient and clinician. The bonding Procedure requires debonding at the end of treatment, which has to be done with removal of complete adhesive resin from the tooth
structure. To achieve proper enamel surface at the end of treatment accurate Bonding and Debonding procedure has to be carried out. The introduction of acid etch bonding technique has brought various changes in the field of orthodontics. The history and future of Bonding is ever changing, in aspects of product development of adhesives, brackets, techniques and accessories used and is continuously occurring at a rapid rate. The previous research and introduction to new concepts have led to many more Advances in the Orthodontic Bonding.
