ABSTRACT
A research has been conducted which aims to see the effect of ethanol extract of piladang leaves (Solenostemon scutellarioides (L.) Codd) on the activity capacity of peritoneal macrophages, percentage of leukocyte cell types, total leucocyte cells and relative spleen weight in mice. The research began with making ethanol extract of piladang leaves (Solenostemon scutellarioides (L.) Codd, then twenty mice were divided into 4 groups. Group I (Negative control) got 0.5% Na.CMC, while groups II, III, and IV (treatment) get each of the ethanol extracts of piladang leaves with successive doses of 200, 400, and 600 mg /
kgBW. The extract is given orally from the first day to the seventh day. On the eighth day, the percentage of leucocyte cell types and total leucocytes are calculated and to each of the mice intraperitoneal suspension of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria then count the activity and capacity of phagocytosis of peritoneal macrophage cells. Based on the results of all test parameters obtained, the greater the dose given, the greater the influence of peritoneal macrophage capacity activity, percentage of leucocyte cell types, total leucocyte cells and relative spleen weight of mice, this indicates that extract piladang leaves have immunostimulant activities. The results of statistical analysis showed data that the ethanol extract of piladang leaves could significantly influence the percentage of species and total leucocytes (p≤0.05), as well as significantly increase the activity capacity of macrophage cells and spleen weights (p≤0.05).
