ABSTRACT
Abscesses around lower rectum and anal canal are known as anorectal abscesses. These are often culminates into fistula-in-ano. These abscesses are classified into 1. Perianal 2. Ischiorectal 3. Submucous 4. Pelvi-rectal.[1] In this single case study Shodana and ropana properties of Syandana tail on ischiorectal abscess was studied. After proper incision and drainage syandana tail was used for regular dressing after washing with normal saline. Acharya Susruta has described Syandana tail in the chapter of bhagandara in the chikitsa sthan (Su.chi.8/50-52) in which there is presence of chitrak, ark etc 12 herbs which helps in shodana, ropana and savarnikaran. From this text, the idea came in mind to use the Syandana tail for shodana and ropana after proper
drainage of the abscess. The patient came to the anorectal OPD of the R.G.G.P.G. Ayurvedic college paprola with immense pain in the anorectal region. After diagonosis incision and drainage of the abscess was done and throughly irrigation of the wound with normal saline was done and after that regular dressing of the wound was done with the syandana tail. Very good results came both in terms of time of healing and healthy granulation tissue.
