ABSTRACT
Temperament (Mizaj) is a key concept of Unani Medicine which determines the personality of an individual. There are several hereditary and environmental factors which play an important role in the human development. But despite identical hereditary and environmental factors, no two personalities are alike. Similarly, no two personalities are fit for doing a same job. It is assumed that everyone has his own characteristics such as intelligence, attitude, physical strength, skills etc. Some of the accepted traits at a workplace are reasoning, emotional stability, dominance, social boldness, dutifulness etc. Therefore people having traits as per the job demand, will be more satisfied for a specific job e.g. an extrovert person will find it easier to be in the sales or marketing job. It is a fact that the personality plays an important role in choosing the preferred job. As such, a study on personality traits and temperament (Mizaj) is not only essential for academic quest but also for the purpose of awareness of diversity among human beings, for vocational training, social dealing and job recruitment so as to benefit from their talents and potentials to the maximum which is essential for the growth of the person in particular and the organization in general. This review paper based on the study of temperament (mizaj) and five factor model of personality (commonly known as Big Five) is aimed at summarizing the association between the two along with the emphasis on personality-based approach in choosing one‟s profession.
