IVARABINE – LIFESAVER IN ANGINAL CONDITION
Tejaswi Bobburi* and Banavath Anjaneyulu
ABSTRACT
Ivabradine continues to evolve along channels that are predicated on its mode of action. It widely inhibits the If current (funny current) in sinoatrial nodal tissue, resulting in a drop rate of diastolic depolarization and the heart rate. Thus, it has been evaluated and is used in selected cases with systolic heart failure and chronic stable angina without clinically significant adverse effects. Although it is not approved for other indications, it has also shown a pledge in the management of inappropriate sinus tachycardia. Here, the review of
the mechanism of action of ivabradine and salient studies like pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, and more that have led to its current clinical indications and use.
Keywords: Ivabradine, hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated (HCN) channel, heart rate, If current, diastolic depolarization, ventricular repolarization, chronic stable angina.
