AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN SYNDROME (PCOS) IN RELATION TO AARTAVKSHAY

ABSTRACT
Nature has blessed woman with special characteristics of periodic menstruation. It gives idea about her reproductive physiology and endocrinology and in term about her infertility. Ayurveda states that fertility depends upon good quality of artava i.e., normal menstruation. Various geographical conditions, environmental factor, strenuous activities, sedentary lifestyle and poor nutrition leads to menstrual disorder like irregular menstruation, scanty bleeding, PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), heavy menses, intermenstrual bleeding. In such hush hush life due to all these factors, PCOS is emerging as one of the leading gynecological disorders. It is corelated with artavkshay and yonivyapads like shandhi yonivyapad, arajaska
yonivyapad in Ayurveda. It leads to infertility & other medical problems. In modern medicine it is treated with hormonal contraceptives pills & invasive techniques like laparoscopic ovarian cystic drilling. The results with these treatments are not satisfactory along with that they have their long-lasting side effects on the body. While Ayurveda has shown satisfactory rays of hope in such conditions. Therefore, here I am trying to put some light on PCOS in relation with ayurvedic aspect.
