SHEETA TO SHOTHA: A CRITICAL CLINICAL OVERVIEW

ABSTRACT
Vata, Pitta, Kapha are the three main pillars of our body. An individual is said to be healthy when these Tridosha are in the state of equilibrium. The balance and imbalance of Doshas depends upon the Guna that they possess. If Guna is in balanced state, the physiological function of Dosha takes place smoothly, Vice versa gives rise to pathological aspect. Sheeta guna is one amongst the 20 Gunas mentioned in the classics. Sheeta Guna in its Prakrut Avastha does Sthambhan, reduces Daha etc. Mithyabhyas of the sheeta guna can lead to many pathological conditions, one of them is Shotha. Shotha as per Ayurveda is a disorder that occurs due to disturbances in micro channels (Srotas) due to Dushti of Rasa Dhatu and Ama leading to inflammation. The work deals about understanding the role of Sheeta Guna as Hetu leading to Shotha Samprapti.
