BIOMEDICAL PROPERTY OF ZAFRAAN & ITS EFFECT IN CANCER THERAPY: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT

Cancer is becoming a very common lethal problem worldwide sharing most important cause of the death. Cancer in any part the body is characterized by abnormal, immature and excessive cell division resulted from mutation in its DNA sequence. Cancer in Unani medicine is known as “Sartaan” which was said to be a pathological consequence of abnormalities in quantity or quality of Sauda. Zafraan in Unani literatures was described to have Muhallil (Anti-inflammatory) Mulattif, Muqawwi-e- Azaa-e-Raieesa (Tonic for vital organs) etc where as recent scientific studies are suggesting Zafraan as good immuno-modulator, having anti tumour properties, anti oxidant, a good source for multivitamins and minerals but its good anti tumour and immuno modulator activity attracted people to work upon it more intensively and more scientifically ahead.
