ABSTRACT

This experiment was conducted to determine the effects of graded levels (0.5, 1.0 and 1.5g/kg) of dietary bacterial probiotic Biogen.S (BPB) as natural growth promoter on the performance, carcass characteristics, and serum biochemical of broiler chicks and their economic impact. A total of 96, seven days old,185g initial weight, un sexed Cobb strain broiler chicks were used. The chicks were divided into 4 experimental groups with three replicates, each of eight chicks (4x3x8). The first group, A, fed on basal diet without feed additives as control diet, the other groups B, C, and D were fed on basal diet supplemented with (BPB) at levels 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5g/kg respectively. The results recorded no mortalities throughout the experimental period. The application of dietary (BPB) at all inclusion levels improved significantly (p≤0.05) the chicks performance compared to control without any effect on feed intake of broiler chicks. The results also, revealed that, inclusion level 1.5g/kg (BPB) had recorded significantly (p≤0.05) the best carcass dressing percent compared to control, whereas the different was not significant (p≥0.05) among the other treatment groups. Results showed no significant differences (p≥0.05) among all treatment groups in commercial cuts (breast, thigh and drumstick) and their meat and the subjective quality attributes, the same trend for serum metabolites (total protein, albumin, creatinine, uric acid, urea, cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglyceride and glucose), serum enzymes (AST and ALP) and serum minerals (Ca and P) of broiler chicks. The addition of (BPB) at all levels in broiler diets are economically profitable compared to control, although the level 1.5g/kg of dietary (BPB) was more profitable (1.54). According to the results of this study, dietary (BPB) could be considered as potential growth promoter without any adverse effect, and can be used as replacement for antibiotic in broiler diets.
