Abstract

RELEASE STUDY OF OPTIMIZED DICLOFENAC SODIUM TABLET USING NATURAL STARCH FROM AMORPHOPHALLUS CAMPANULATUS AS BINDER

Shikha Singh*, Vivek Kumar Patel, Gaurish Narayan Singh and Shivjee Kashyap

ABSTRACT

The main objective of the present work was to introduce and evaluate the binding property of excipient like natural starch from Elephant foot yam (Amorphophallus campanulatus) used in tablet formulation. In case of tablets formulation the role of pharmaceutical excipients as a binders is very important for release of drug. Amorphophallus campanulatus starch was extracted by the method of flour samples and further grounded in a blender with 0.2% sodium hydroxide solution in the ratio of (1:2). The slurry was converted into starch microcrystalline pellets. The colour free pellet was then dried in a hot air oven at 45±5ºC for 16 hours until the moisture content was less than 10%. The dried starch samples were ground, sieved through 100 mesh sieves and stored in air tight containers. In-vitro release characteristic of the prepared tablets was analysed. Results from various evaluations suggested that starch obtained from elephant foot yam shows qualitatively and quantitatively has good dissolution profile characteristic which optimize the release of drug diclofenac sodium as compared to normal tablet. These tablets also confirmed significant degree of dissolution as per the standards.
