ABSTRACT
Background & Aim: Neurological diseases are of great concern because lack of proper therapy leads to complications and mortality. Among them stroke is considered to be a major cause of death and the risk increases with age. This study was conducted to evaluate the treatment pattern of neurological disorders and also to identify the risk factors associated with them mainly stroke. Materials and Methods: This was a prospective observational study carried out for a period of 2 months at sri sri neuro centre, Hanamkonda. Patients profile form was collected and their demographic details, past history and symptoms were collected and assessed using Microsoft excel. Results: Out of 80 patients, females (60 %) were more affected with neurological diseases than males (40 %) whereas stroke cases were more among males when
compared to females. Majority of the patients were above 50 years. Most of the cases diagnosed were stroke (37.5 %) followed by migraine (25 %), Parkinson’s disease (15 %), cervical and lumbar PIVD (6.25 %), others (16.2 %). Hypertension was the common risk factor found in our study. PPI’s (83.7 %), NSAIDS (57.5 %), Antti-hypertensives (40 %), Anti-convulsants (35 %), Antiparkinson drugs (35 %), Gaba analogues (36.2%), multivitamin (26.2 %), Antihistamines (17.5 %), Antiplatelets (15 %), Statins (13.7 %), Antipsychotics (11.2 %), Nootropics (7.5 %) were the drugs prescribed in our study. Conclusion: Stroke is the major disease affecting the population and hypertension is the major modifyable risk factor. Providing rational therapy and proper counselling reduces the stroke recurrence.
