Abstract

FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF OMEPRAZOLE NANOSUSPENSION

Lata Yogi*, Sunita Sonartiya and Rajat Pawar

ABSTRACT

Nanosuspension is a universal formulation method for poorly soluble drugs to overcome gastrointestinal barriers and improve the oral bioavailability. Omeprazole is sensitive to heat, humidity, light, and acidity; in addition to its hydrophobicity. It was concluded that omeprazole preformulation study like organoleptic properties, λmax, calibration curve method, partition coefficient, FTIR, and Solubility studies. This work reports for production of submicron size range suspension: precipitation ultrasonication method in the presence of selected stabilizers at different concentrations. The nanosuspensions were evaluated for their particle size, zeta potential, and drug content. The selected formula was freeze dried and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), FTIR, DSC, and X-ray diffractometry studies. Nanoprecipitation method was successfully employed to produce stable omeprazole nanosuspension by using the proper stabilizer. Omeprazole nanoparticles may be a promising formula that improves oral bioavailability of poorly water soluble omeprazole.
