ISOLATION AND SCREENING OF RHAMNOLIPID PRODUCING BACTERIA

ABSTRACT

The screening for bacterial species in oil contaminated soil samples with biosurfactant producing ability was investigated. The biosurfactant producing ability of the bacteria was investigated by adopting the hemolytic assay, drop collapse test, emulsification index and methylene blue agar plate method. The isolates showing the ability to produce the surfactant were identified. The superior ability to produce surfactant was shown by Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from all the sources viz. Agriculture waste, dairy waste,oil industry waste and petrol pump.
