A CASE STUDY ON FLOWER CULTIVATION IN KANGRA, HIMACHAL PRADESH, INDIA

ABSTRACT
Flower cultivation is emerging as a significant commercial crop. The lot of significance has been given to this segment due to its several uses, fulfilling the aesthetic needs of the people. This is apart from creating more employment, ensuring higher rate of returns to rural people and facilitating earning more foreign exchange. The present case was documented for a flower cultivating family (Patial family) in Kandbari village of Palampur district of Himachal Pradesh, India. The study revealed that flower cultivation is a profitable business but contains challenges in numerous respects. The flower cultivation
family considers that there is a need to diversify the flower business to “Floriculture tourism” for safe and sustainable future.
