ABSTRACT
Neuropathic pain is caused by a lesion or disease of the somatosensory system. These fibers become activated in response to intense mechanical, chemical or thermal stimuli from the peripheral and transmit the pain signals into the spinal cord. A retrospective observational study was conducted in the department of Neuromedicine in a tertiary care hospital. A total of 131 patients with neuropathic pain diagnosed with symptoms, clinical examination, X-ray, MRI were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The patient demographic details and medication plan were acquired
from the patient record database. The collected data were compared based on the NeuPSIG. The statistical analysis was done by IBM SPSS 20. The most common etiological factor responsible for neuropathic pain was found to be patients with compressive nerve (32.14%). The most common clinical manifestation associated with neuropathic pain was found to be lancinating pain and numbness (16.78%). The majority of patients was diagnosed using X-RAY Scan. On assessing the co morbidities associated with the patients, most frequently occurred was DM. it is hoped that the objectives of the study help in understanding the disease and help in improving patient care.
