Abstract

A CASE STUDY ON CHITTODVEGA WITH TAKRADHARA AND MEDHYA RASAYANA

ABSTRACT

Ayurveda i.e. ‘the science of life’, deals with the preservation, maintenance and promotion of good health and cure of disease. In all the living beings, diseases caused due to vitiation of the doshas that affects to the body (Sharira) and mind (Manasa) also. Acharya Charaka termed Chittodvega as a symptom of Unmada that occurs due to the vitiation of Raja and Tama guna. In modern science, it includes in anxiety disorders. In the Ayurveda system of medicine, its treatment schedule is well narrated through the purificatory (Panchakarmas) and palliative measures. Takradhara is one among the Panchakarma therapies included under Murdhini Taila that very much effective in the management of Chittodvega. Takradhara is a unique Panchakarma measure in which medicated curd is poured over the forehead in a specific manner. In this study, treatment planned was Takradhara followed by Shamana aushadhis (internal medicines). Here, Sankhapuspi Panaka as a Medhya rasayana is used for oral medication. Assessment of the condition of the patient before and after the treatment was done by using Hamilton’s Anxiety Rating Scale to evaluate the status of improvement. After the completion of schedule of one week of Takradhara therapy and also with 21 days of oral administration of medicine, improvement in symptoms was observed.
