CONCEPTUAL REVIEW OF LITERATURE ON AGNI WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO SWASTHVRITTA

ABSTRACT
Ayurveda is an ancient life science which advocates a complete promotive, preventive and curative system of medicine. The main aim of Ayurved is to acquire purusharth by means of Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. For this purpose every person should be healthy in terms of Sharira and Manas. Good health forms the basis for fulfilling these four main principles of human life. The definition of Swastha (Healthy) Person according to Ayurveda is balanced functioning of the Dosha, Agni, Dhatu, Mala kriya and happy state of the (Prasanna) Atma, Indriya and Mana. Agni is the unique concept in Ayurveda. Life, complexion, strength, homeostatic condition of body, spirit of life, nourished status of body, prabha i.e. aura of body, ojas, tejas,
status of various other Agni-types of body and liveliness are due to Agni. Digestive power is so important that life of an individual is dependent on its status. So it is advised that for healthy life, digestive power should be taken care of. Extinction of this Jatharagni leads to death and its proper maintenance helps a person to live a long life & its impairment gives rise to diseases. Therefore Jatharagni is considered to be the root or the most important sustaining factor of living beings. This agni is affected in both the positive and negative manner according to food that is consumed.
