A REVIEW ON MORPHOLOGICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES POSSESSED BY COLOCASIA ESCULENTA

ABSTRACT
Colocasia esculenta is a tropical herbaceous plant with many medicinal properties and has been used for several years. It is widely cultivated plant in the highly rainfall areas and majorly in southeast Asia. It has many common names like Arbi, Arvi etc. Taro is perennial monocotyledons herbaceous plant. Taro is highly rich in carbohydrate and low in protein and fat. It is a good source of starch. This herbaceous plant has been used for many diseases such as Asthma, Arthritis, Diarrhea, neurological disorders and many skin disorders. It contains many chemical constituents like calcium, phosphorus,
thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, oxalic acid, calcium oxalate, and flavones, apigenin. It is a good source of vitamin B6, vitamin C, niacin, potassium, copper, and manganese.
