SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF MONO, BIS MANNICH AND SCHIFF BASES DERIVED FROM CORRESPONDING CHALCONE COMPOUNDS

ABSTRACT

A series of mono, bis Mannich and Schiff base compounds derived from various chalcones were synthesized. Mono and bis Mannich bases encompassing chalcone group were synthesized by the treatment of 1 mole of chalcones (osb1-5) with 1 mole of cyclohexylamine in the presence of formaldehyde to afford the products (osb6-9). Schiff base compound (osb10) involving chalcone group was synthesized by the treatment of mole of dibromo ketone (osb5) with mole of cyclohexylamine. The structures of the newly prepared compounds have been established based on their physical and spectral data (FTIR and 1H NMR).
