ABSTRACT
A new indirect spectrophotometric method for the estimation of fluoride ion has been developed. The method is based on the formation of the fluoride complex which bleach the color of Ti(IV) with 2-hydroxy-1- (2-hydroxy-4-sulfo-1-naphthylazo)-3-naphthanic acid (HHSNNA) complex with proportional decrease of absorbance. Therefore the decrease in color intensity is proportional to the concentration of fluoride ion. Molar absorptivity is 0.38x103 l/mol.cm at wavelength 685 nm. Beer s law is obeyed in the concentration range of 0.2- 3. 6μg/ml. The method is applied successfully to determination
of fluoride ion in different real water samples, different brand of toothpastes pharmaceutical preparations and various brand tea infusions.
