ABSTRACT

Bioenhancer are chemical agent which stimulates and increase bioavailability of drug when they are mixed with drug without causing any synergistic effect with drug. Bioenhancers Plays major role in the drugs which are poorly available, administered for long period, toxic and expensive. Due to reduced bioavailability of drugs dose require to achieve therapeutic outcome is more so that it increase the cost of required drugs this can be only overcome by combining the drugs with bioenhancer which minimizes the cost of therapy and also excessive dosage related adverse effects. They can be classified based on their natural origin as well as based on different mechanism of action elicited by them, when they are combined with drug to achieve maximum bioavailability. Most of bioenhancer are natural in origin with herbal nature so that they have unlimited source which adds more beneficial as it does not require large finances to extract, prepare or produce the bioenhancer. There are different kinds of bioenhancer such as piperine, Cuminum cyminum, Allicin, Niaziridin, Glycyrrhizin, Aloe Vera, Ginger, capsaicin, Naringin, curcumin out of all cuminum cyminum and Niaziridin are potential Bioenhancer. This article is review the various kind of natural bioenhancer for improvement of drug bioavailability along with their mechanism of action and source of extraction. Herbal bioenhancer have been shown to enhance the bioavailability of different class of drug so due to which cost of therapy, duration are reduced and prognostic outcome are Improved. E.g. antituberculosis, antiviral, anticancer, antibiotic. Bioenhancer also improve oral absorption of macronutrients and micronutrients. This article reviews the ideal Bioenhancers with Herbal and non-herbal origin, different bioenhancer with their mechanism of action by which they enhance bioavailability of drugs and also discussed about the specific class of drug in which use of bioenhancer and their additional properties.
