Abstract

IN-VITRO DETERMINATION OF SUN PROTECTION FACTOR OF CHEMICAL AND HERBAL SUNSCREEN CREAMS BY UV-VIS SPECTROPHOTOMETRY

ABSTRACT

The Aim of this work was to determine sun protection factor of sunscreen creams containing chemical and herbal sunscreen agents. The ultraviolet spectrophotometry method was used. Six commercially available chemical and herbal sunscreen creams were evaluated for SPF. Only one herbal sample exceeded SPF than labelled. Remaining two herbal cream samples had shown less SPF than labelled. One sample of chemical cream was very close in comparison to other two samples. SPF determination by ultraviolet spectrophotometry was found a simple, easy and time saving method for determination of SPF of chemical as well as herbal creams.
