A REVIEW ARTICLE ON POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN SYNDROME
Archana Vijai* and Archana Vijai
ABSTRACT
In premenopausal women, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most frequent endocrine and metabolic illnesses. PCOS is a heterogeneous condition characterised by a combination of androgen excess and ovarian dysfunction symptoms in the absence of other diagnosis. Although the exact cause of PCOS is unknown, emerging evidence suggests that it is a multigenic illness with substantial epigenetic and environmental impacts, including nutrition and lifestyle variables. PCOS is usually linked to abdominal adiposity, insulin resistance, obesity, metabolic abnormalities, and risk factors for cardiovascular disease. This review is an attempt to summarize the
evolution of the diagnosis and current management guidelines and also to look into the future approaches.
Keywords: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome; PCOS; Oligomenorrhoea, Hirsutism.
