ABSTRACT
The goal of this research work was to formulate and evaluate controlled release drug delivery system of Ciprofloxacin hcl Spansules. Ciprofloxacin controlled release Spansules were prepared by wet granulation method using two polymers such as HPMC K 100M (hydrophilic polymer) and guar gum (natural polymer). Spansules are made up of hard gelatin capsules and its contains active medicaments in the form of granules or mirco-pellets. The outer gelatin shell provide stability to granules and release drug at the required time. The pellets are formed by the Pan coating method. All the Evaluation parameters were within the acceptable limits. IR spectroscopy analysis showed
that there was no interaction between the drug and polymers. In-vitro dissolution study was carried out using USP dissolution test apparatus (paddle type) at 50rpm. The test was carried out at 37 ± 0.50 C in 900ml of the N/10 Hcl buffer as the medium for two hours, and pH 7.2 buffer from 2nd hour to 12th hour. The in vitro release study showed that if the polymer ratio is increased, then the release of the drug is prolonged. HPMC K 100M shows a prolonged release when compared to guar gum.
