ABSTRACT
The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the drug utilization of antiplatelets and anticoagulants in hypertension using a data data collection proforma. The retrospective study was carried out for a period of 6 months in which data from January 2016 to January 2019 was collected. It was found, there is a significant association between age and drug utilization of a hypertensive patient (P=0.001). Of the study population
92(82.1%) were found to be clinically better. There is significant association between the clinical outcome and drug utilization of the study population (P=0.022). In our study we have observed that more number of patients received a combination therapy of 2 antiplatelets (aspirin & clopidogrel) ie., 56(50%). A combination of two antiplatelets (aspirin + clopidogrel) were found to be the most utilized therapy in our study population followed by an antiplatelet monotherapy. The risk factors like age, gender, BMI, smoking, alcoholism, diabetics, and family history were associated with hypertension. While the risk factor gender does not have a statistical significance with drug utilization in our study population. Majority of our study population were found to be clinically better. Clinical outcome of our study population had a statistical significance with the drug utilization. Appropriate treatment regimen for hypertension can decrease the incidence of developing into other cardiovascular diseases and hence our study on the drug utilization of antiplatelets and anticoagulants in hypertension assumes profound significance.
