Manoj Kumar, Mangla Nand Singh* and Ankur Yadav

ABSTRACT

The present study is to evaluate analgesic and antipyretic activity of Hydro alcoholic extract of Gnaphalium Polycaulon. Gnaphalium Polycaulon subjected for hydroalcoholic extraction using simple mesaration method and analgesic activity evalutaed by using Writhing test (WT), Hot Plate method and Tail Immersion test and antipyretic method evaluated by Brewer’s yeast-induced pyrexia. Results are interpreted using statistical method. The results in this study showed that the hydroalcoholic extract Gnaphalium Polycaulon roots (HAEGPR), and hydroalcoholic extract Gnaphalium Polycaulon leaves (HAEGPL) possessed antipyretic activity in yeast induced pyrexia in rats. The reference drug aspirin also decreased the yeast induced fever in rats, Therefore, the antipyretic effect of HAEGPR, HAEGPL significantly reduced the rectal temperature of rats induced by the brewer’s yeast injection might be due to the inhibition of prostaglandins (PGE2) synthesis in prostaglandin pathways. (Vane et at., 1987). These results support the use of roots and leaves Gnaphalium Polycaulon extracts as an antipyretic for the treatment of fever in traditional medicines. Evaluation of hydro-alcoholic extract of drug Gnaphalium polycaulon for analgesic activity was done by writhing test, hot plate test, and tail flick test, anti-inflammatory activity by formalin-induced hind paw oedema test, carrageenan induced paw oedema, antipyretic activity was evaluated by yeast-induced pyrexia in rates. Recent study revealed that HAEGPR (200 and 400 mg/kg), possessed analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretics activities in dose dependent manner. HAEGPL was found to be more effective with that of standard drugs Diclofenac, Indomethacin and Paracetamol (6 mg/kg).
