TINOSPORA CORDIFOLIA (WILLD.) WITH DYNAMIC THERAPEUTIC ROLE: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Plants are used to treat various diseases since ages. Plant materials remain one of the important resources to combat serious diseases around the world. In the developing countries, the traditional medicinal methods, especially the use of medicinal plants, still play a major role to cover the basic health requirements. The medicinal values of these plants rest in some bio-active substances that produce certain physiological activity within the human body. Tinospora cordifolia also known as Guduchi or Giloy belongs to Menispermaceae family and has been mentioned in various ancient literatures and thus is used
widely in treating various ailments. The discovery of various active compounds of Tinospora cordifolia and their biological functions has gained the attention of researchers. Since years the various medicinal properties of it has been investigated and now the studies are also going on to investigate its effect against SARS-CoV-2. It is distributed throughout tropical Africa, Madagascar, Asia to Australia and the Pacific Islands. This review paper enlists the various traditional and therapeutic properties of Tinospora cordifolia and its possible uses at the time of global pandemic i.e., its efficacy against SARS-CoV-2 so, that further researches can be made and its various uses can be documented for future studies.
