ARTICULATION OF MOUTH DISSOLVING FILM: A NOVEL APPROACH FOR ORAL DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM

ABSTRACT
Mouth dissolving films is a new drug delivery system for oral route. This delivery system consists of a very thin oral strip, which is simply placed on the patients tongue, instantly wet by saliva, within a few seconds film rapidly hydrated and then disintegrates and dissolve to release the medication. The patient can take the product without using supplementary liquid. This advantage increased patient conformity. The drug is directly absorbed into systemic circulation, Mouth dissolving film avert the first pass effect. This formulation mainly admissible among pediatric and geriatric patients and also those people having fear of choking. In the formulation of oral film, the most important ingredient is polymer which helps in film formation. Mainly hydrophilic polymers are used in mouth dissolving films. The mouth
dissolving films are formulated by using polymers, plasticizer, flavors, colors and sweeteners and other film forming excipients. This review describes about the formulation methodology, evaluation parameters and the future characteristic of mouth dissolving films.
