Abstract

EFFICACY OF DURVADI TAILA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF SADHYA VRANA

ABSTRACT

Vrana have been managed by human being from starting of civilization. Under the circumstances the first thing which the men came across was the injury from different sources which caused him the Vrana (wound). Vrana is classified as Nija & Agantuj, where Agantuj Vrana or Sadyovrana with a correlation to traumatic wound. Vrana is seen as debilitating and scaring disorder usually seen affecting the human being at any age. Vrana is the most important and widely described chapter of Shalya Tantra.Acharyas described about treatment principles of wound management and classified the drugs related to Vrana Shodhana and Vrana ropana. Acharya Sushruta has described Shashti Upakramasin the management of the Vrana.On comprehensive review of Ayurvedic classics, Durva was found to be one of the drugs having wound healing properties. According to Charaka Samhita, Durvais descrived in Prajasthapan and Varnya mahakashaya. In Sushruta Samhita, Durva is described in intrinsic haemorrhage. To manage the Sadyo Vrana different type of treatment modalities explained in the classics, Durvadi Taila is one among them. 30 patients were selected according to inclusion criteria and divided into two groups. Viz -Group I: Trail group, were treated by Durvadi Taila local application once daily & Group II: Control group, were treated by the cleaning with normal saline with sterile dry gauze were used for dressing. The result of Durvadi Taila is found to be significant in the process of wound healing by its antibacterial, analgesic, and haemostatic properties.
