A REVIEW ON OSTEOPOROSIS IN WOMEN

ABSTRACT
Osteoporosis is the most common bone disease in humans, representing a major public health problem. It is characterized by low bone mineral density (BMD), deterioration of bone tissue, and disruption of bone microarchitecture/mineralization, this can lead to enhanced bone fragility and consequent increase in risk of fracture. Osteoporosis is proving to be a major clinical problem in older women with over 80% of women above 55 being affected the most. This review article mainly aims to provide brief information on the classification, causes and pathogenesis of osteoporosis.
