ASSESSMENT OF THE AWARENESS ON DRUG EFFECT IN GENERAL POPULATION

ABSTRACT
A drug effect generally predicts „hazard from future administration and warrant prevention, or particular treatment, or modification of the dosage regimen, or withdrawal of the product‟. The study was conducted to analyse how often patients complain regarding the drug effects. Hence, a questionnaire based online survey was conducted and was shared via social media to find out the reasons on the extent of awareness on drug effects and the results were analyzed. It was found that 78.4% of the people have taken different category of drugs and the rest that is 21.6% did not take any category of drugs. 76.5% of the people had faced different types of drug effects and 23.5% did not experience any such problems. 85.3% of the people did not report drug
effects to the physician and 13.7% reported such reactions. It was also found that the reasons for not complaining about drug effects to the physician were, 55.9% of the people thought that there is no importance to report such reactions, 8.8% of the people had lack of time, 3.9% of the people experienced non co-operative behaviour of the physician, 2% of the people were scared of procuring other medications and 4.9% of the people did not experience such thing. By the above data it can be concluded that most of the people are unaware regarding the drug effects and its importance to convey it to physician. To overcome this problems physicians, pharmacist and nurse have to provide proper education regarding the drug effects and its importance.
