STUDY ON AWARENESS AND KNOWLEDGE ON PHARMACOVIGILANCE AMONG PHARMACY STUDENTS IN TUMKUR CITY

ABSTRACT
Secure use of medications is a key element in today’s world. Study involving the post-marketing safety issues regarding the Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) is the one of the most important areas in the fields of pharmacovigilance (PV). The current study was meant to evaluate the awareness and knowledge on pharmacovigilance among pharmacy students in Tumkur city. The questionnaire was tested and made error-free prior to using. The questionnaire contained 13 knowledge-based questions, 5 attitude related questions and 2 questions which were related to the practices used towards the ADRs. The participants were interviewed and data was collected. Concerning the results of this study, a total of 110 respondents participated in the study. Overall perception and knowledge about pharmacovigilance and ADR reporting in females is 34.89% whereas, in male students, it is 31.9 %. It was concluded from the results that there is poor KAP towards pharmacovigilance so there is an utmost requirement to continuous learning strategy for the pharmacy students.
