Abstract

FACTORS AFFECTING PRACTICES OF FAMILY PLANNING IN WOMEN ATTENDING TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL, JHARKHAND

ABSTRACT

Objectives: The present study was carried out to determine the factors affecting the practice of women towards family planning and to find out the association between socio demographic and other factors with adoption of family planning practices. Material & Methods: A hospital based cross sectional study was carried out among the women admitted in Post Natal Care ward, in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi. A pre-tested, semi-structured questionnaire was used to interview the study participants. The collected data was entered in MS excel sheet and was analyzed using software, SPSS version 20. Mean and standard deviation was calculated for continuous variable. Categorical variable were expressed in percentage. Chi square test was used to find association between variables. Results: A total of 106 female were enrolled for this study. The mean age (SD) of the participants was found to be 23.58(2.73) years. Two third of the participants agreed of being uncomfortable while buying contraceptives. Almost half (49.5%) participants were preferring condoms for contraception. Conclusion: Our data revealed that majority of the participants have knowledge about the family planning methods. Availability and accessibility of the contraceptives has to be ensured for more coverage among rural population.
