ABSTRACT
The goal of this study was to develop Metformin HCl and Gliclazide bi-layer tablets, with Metformin HCl as the sustained release layer and Gliclazide as the immediate release layer. The I.R spectra showed that there was no interaction between the polymer/ excipients and Metformin hydrochloride and Gliclazide. Four formulations were prepared taking Carbopol 971, HPMC K4M, HPMC K15M and HPMC K100M. The formulated bi layer tablets undergoes various evaluation test and in vitro release study and gave a satisfactory results. According to the results, bilayer tablets containing Gliclazide and Metformin HCl are a better alternative to conventional dosage forms for delivering sustained drug delivery.
Keywords: Bi-layer tablets, Metformin Hydrochloride, Gliclazide.
