ABSTRACT
Plant used in traditional medicine is potential sources of new biologically active compounds with innumerable therapeutic activities. Ficus palmate L. (Moraceae) is such plant used in folklore medicines for a number of ailments. The freshly collected leaves of above plant were screened; shade dried, and finds out the extract leaves of ficus palmata. The leaf extract of this plant was subjected to pharmacognostical and various phytochemical studies i.e. preliminary physical analysis, determination of extractive values, % yield and
identification of different phytoconstituents. The % yield (3.6) for Ficus palmata leaves obtained with hydroalcoholic. The result was concluded the presence of flavonoids, Saponins, carbohydrates, triterpenoids & steroids, Tannin & phenols, glycosides, cardiac glycosides and alkaloids in ficus palmata leaves also In conclusion that, Ficus species are rich source of naturally occurring antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. In addition, the extract also showed potent antimicrobial activity with all the bacterial strains with maximum inhibition against B.subtilis. These results encourage the researchers to do further in vitro and in vivo research that will explore the role of bioactive constituents responsible for these activities. Hence, further studies are needed to evaluate the antioxidant activity and antimicrobial activity of their partially purified fractions. Further studies are also needed at molecular level.
Keywords: Ficus palmata, flavonoids, B.subtilis, antimicrobial.
