CONCEPTUAL STUDY ON BILWADI AGADA- A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
As per the Ayurvedic treaties, A substance which after entering the body, disturb natural and psychological function of body is called as Visha (poison). Drugs which are anti-poisonous act against toxic substances are called as Vishghna (Anit-toxic). According to Ayurvedic literature, the potency and efficacy (Saviryata awadhi) of Ayurvedic classical preparations depend upon quality of each drug, region, time, season, their preparation method and route of administration. In this article we describe the different pharmacological actions of Bilwadi Agad along with its effect in toxicity. As per Acharya Vaghbhagta & Sahastrayogam, Bilwadi Agad is useful for the treatment of Sarpa, Luta, Vruschika and Undoor Visha. It includes Bilwa, Surasa (Tulsi), Karanja, Tagara, Surahwa, Amalaki, Haritaki, Vibhitaki, Shunthi, Maricha, Pippali, Haridra, Daruharidra. The
literature of all contents of Bilwadi Yoga have been studied thoroughly from various Nighantus and then their description is written in this article. According to the various literatures it has Tridoshghna property especially it is Kaphvatghna in action. According to the Rasa, Guna, Virya, Vipaka described in Ayurvedic text the efficacy has also been tested. All the drugs in this yoga are Vishghna & Krimighna. and their pharmacological actions revealed as anti-microbial, antiviral, antiseptic, antifungal, anti-diarrheal and anti-protozoal. The main objective of this review article is to discuss the therapeutic effect of Bilwadi Agad and to discuss the various pharmacological properties of its contents along with its action on various toxicity. In this research article we are trying to establish the fact which are mentioned in ayurvedic text regarding Bilwadi Agada on the recent research parameters.
