ABSTRACT
Rasashastra is the branch of Ayurveda that mainly deals with parada (mercury) and its preparations. Parada is used in many formulations along with other metals, minerals and herbal drugs. Preparations using parada with other metals, minerals are called as rasakalpa (herbo-mineral preparations). Rasakalpa are four in number, they are khalviya, parpati, kupipakva and pottali kalpa. Vangeshwara rasa is a herbo-mineral preparation, mainly indicated for prameha (diabetes). Many references of vangeshwara rasa are found in the books of rasashastra. Few references are also quoting its indications in udararoga (ascites), kshaya (emaciation), yakrutpleeha roga (diseases of liver and spleen) etc. Therefore, it is essential to collect the references of Vangeshwara rasa and interpret its action in different contexts.
