Abstract

ROLE OF VERMICOMPOST ON CROP YIELD: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT

This review article is to study effect of vermicompost on yield of plants. Also presenting a comparison of vermicompost with other manures and chemical fertilizers. Scientists have studied impact of vermicompost on different crops like chili, tomato brinjal etc. As vermicompost is rich in available carbon and nitrogen. Worms used in this and their casts make soil rich in soluble water and contained twice or thrice more available nutrients than surroundings, this encourages better growth in plants. It has been observed that vermicompost when used with chemical fertilizers increase yield. Shoot length increase and increases germination percentage, upon seed treatment with vermicompost.
