ABSTRACT
Specific practices related to care of mother and child postpartum have been prominent in all ethnicities. Such traditional knowledge is passed down from generations, and is a part of heritage. It is essential to explore these traditional practices in the view of understanding the possible reasoning behind them, and thus to adapt and introduce relevant practices to the masses. Virshe is one such healthy practice prevalent in the South Canara region, often practiced in the puerperal period for preservation of health.
