Abstract

TO STUDY EMOTIONAL QUOTIENT IN DIFFERENT MANAS PRAKRITI PERSONS

ABSTRACT

Emotional intelligence describes ability, capacity, and skill to identify, assess, manage and control the emotions of one‟s self, of others and of groups. The Main objective of study were 1.To study concepts and attributes of Manas Prakriti according to Ayurved.2.To study different aspects of Emotional Intelligence Quotients according to modern behavioral and medical sciences.3.To try to find relationship between the two so as to improve human relationships and solve emotional problems. The study was carried out in 160 individuals in the age group of 20 – 40, mostly students of seven professional colleges. There were 80 males and 80 females. The tools used were 1 Questionnaire of assessment of Manas Prakrits consisting of 48 standard and pretested statements 2.Emotional Intelligence Scale (EIS), it contains valid and reliable 34 questions. The questionnaires were admixture to the willing participants after taking necessary permission and establishing required reports for genuine responses. The data was analyzed by using tables, charts diagrams and statistics. Manas Prakriti of Ayurveda was understood to be three main types are Satvik, Rajas and Tamas. The attributes of Satvik Prakriti studied through 19 questions were Authoritative speech, power of understanding and relation, Exhibition of anger and pleasure in proper place, Initiation of action at proper time, love for truth, purity, intellectual excellence and eloquence, absence of pride, ego, greed, self-control, power of discrimination, freedom from jealousy, far-sightedness, fairness to all creatures, taking for virtuous acts, expertise in poetry and literature. The study of Rajas Prakriti (14 questions) included violence and revenge, painful disposition, liking for no vegetarian food, indulgence in self-praise, cruelty, envy indiscrimination, Ruthlessness, unsteadiness, bravery, cruelty, unclean habits, wrathfulness. The characteristics of Tamas Prakriti in 14 questions revealed the qualities of postponement and avoidance of work, low intelligence, excessive sleep, eating, sex, passion, quarrelsome, involvement in self, laziness, in decisiveness lack of cleanliness and tolerance to environmental vagaries of temperature, wind etc. In the study of Manas Prakriti 146 (91.25%) belonged to Satvika or predominantly Satvik, 7 (4.7%) exhibited Rajas and predominantly Rajas and 7 (4.7%) were of Tamas or me dominantly Tamas. The pure Satvik were only 21. Pure Rajas and Tamas were not observed. The individuals have mixed or combinations of Manas Prakrits. Fifteen such combinations were studied to observe that STR or combination of all the three Prakritis were nearly one third.
