A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY ON DRUG PRESCRIBING PATTERN OF ANTI-PLATELETS AND ANTICOAGULANTS AMONG CARDIAC AND CEREBROVASCULAR DISEASE PATIENTS IN THE TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL, MANDYA

ABSTRACT
Background: Cardiac and Cerebrovascular disease is one of the most common cause of morbidity and mortality all over the world. Antiplatelet and Anticoagulant therapy is the main stay of treatment for patients with Cardiac and Cerebrovascular disease. Present study has been conducted to evaluate the prescribing pattern of antiplatelet and anticoagulant agents. The aim of the study is to review the treatment and management of drugs in Cardiac and Cerebrovascular disease. Methodology: This was a record based retrospective study on Cardiac and Cerebrovascular patients prescribed with Antiplatelet and Anticoagulant agents admitted at general medicine department of MIMS, Mandya. The required data were collected from 200 cases
based on the inclusion criteria. A well designed data collection form was used for collecting the details. The obtained information were documented and subjected to suitable statistical method. Result: Total 200 prescriptions with Cardiac and Cerebrovascular disease was collected. CVA with Hemiparesis was the most commonly observed cerebrovascular disease and CVA with Hemiparesis with Hypertension and ACS with MI with Hypertension was the commonly observed Cardiovascular disease. The most commonly prescribed antiplatelet agent was found to be Aspirin, the most commonly prescribed anticoagulant was found to be LMWH. The most used pattern of Antiplatelet combination therapy is the combination therapy of Aspirin + Clopidogrel (32%) , the most used pattern of anticoagulant combination therapy of LMWH + Acenocoumarol and antiplatelet and anticoagulant combination therapy of Aspirin + Clopidogrel + LMWH. Dyslipidemia was the most commonly observed Comorbid condition with the Cardiac and Cerebrovascular disease. Conclusion: Our study concludes that Cardiac and Cerebrovascular disease is commonly seen in males at the age group of 61-70 years. Study concludes that Combination therapy were beneficial over monotherapy.
