Abstract

AN OVERVIEW OF WEARABLE AND IMPLANTABLE MEDICAL DEVICES FOR DISEASES

ABSTRACT

Wearable and Implantable Medical devices have gained popularity with the advancement in technology over the decades. This patient- oriented technology have numerous advantages over traditional methods for disease diagnosis, drug monitoring and drug administration. Faster onset of action, precise and immediate pharmacokinetic details, increased patient compliance and high bioavailability of drugs are some of the factors which makes them a desirable tool. This review highlights the current classification of these personalized electronic drug delivery devices and the mechanism associated with them. Our primary focus herein remains to classify wearable and implantable devices depending upon their usage in acute and chronic diseases. Further emphasis is given upon the approved devices, which are prevailing in the market. We anticipate that in the future, these medical devices may pave their own way in diverse healthcare system and can play an important role in strengthening E- Healthcare. It can also prove a boon for early diagnosis and precise treatment of patients leading to decreased mortality rates.
