ABSTRACT
Introduction: The traditional system of medicine has a vital role in the treatment of many ailments. But lack of scientific data is the main hindrance of their limited use in the modern era. Inflammation is a complex reaction occurred in the body as part of the immune response. We were evaluated the anti-inflammatory activity of Murivenna an ayurvedic formulation by using Jijith –Jayakumari method Objective: We established the anti-inflammatory effect of an Ayurveda formulation - Murivenna and checked whether the designed apparatus is suitable for the evaluation of the topical anti-inflammatory activity. Materials and Methods: The chicken intestine is a good model for the prediction of in vitro anti-inflammatory activity. Based on this concept
we already established in vitro apparatus, named as Jijith- Jayakumari apparatus. By using this apparatus we have evaluated the anti-inflammatory activity of Murivenna as the ayurvedic formulation is available in the Indian market. Results: These studies showed the dose and time-dependent inhibition of inflammation when compared with standard drug as Diclofenac sodium gel and we have compared the anti-inflammatory action of diclofenac gel with murivenna as ayurvedic formulation. Conclusions: From the result, we conclude Murivenna showed a significant anti-inflammatory effect when compared with the standard drug diclofenac sodium gel and proved the established apparatus is suitable for the evaluation of the transdermal anti-inflammatory agents.
