ABSTRACT
Spectrophotometric method and kinetic study has been developed for determination of carvedilol (CAR) and clarithromycin (CLAR) drugs in their pure and dosage forms. The method is depend on the reaction of drugs as n-donors with 2,3-Dichloro -5,6-dicyano -1,4 benzoquinone (DDQ) as π-acceptor forming charge transfer (CT) complexes having maximum absorption at 460 and 462 nm for Carvedilol and Clarithromycin respectively. Beer’s low obeyed in the range 5-60 and 4 – 70 μg.ml-1 with molar absorptivity values of 2.43×103 and 3.44 x 103 l.mol-1.cm-1 and recovery % 102.6 and 98.7 respectively. The variables affecting the reactions were studied and the conditions have been optimized. The method was applied successfully for the determination of CAR and CLAR in their commercial dosage forms. Kinetic study is achieved by applying the initial rate method. The reactions of formation and dissociation of charge transfer complexes resulting from the interaction of the two drugs CAR, CLAR with DDQ, are subject to the pseudo first order reaction. The fixed time method was also used to estimate the concentration of the considered drugs. This method showed a great consistency between the values of drug concentrations estimated practically by the analytical method with the values calculated statistically.
